2020 Symposium Call for Abstracts

2020 Symposium on Substance Use ResearchCall for Poster and Short Research Presentation Abstracts

Hosted Jointly by the RDAR COBRE, the COBRE on Opioids and Overdose, and WVCTSI

We are excited to announce that the 2020 Symposium on Substance Use Research will be hosted digitally. This symposium provides the opportunity for those working in the areas of substance use to come together and share their original research. We are pleased to begin accepting abstracts for the digitized short research presentations and the poster session. Please note that you DO NOT have to be formally associated with any National Institutes of Health (NIH) Centers for Biomedical Excellence (COBRE) or IDeA Program Infrastructure for Clinical and Translational Research (IDeA-CTR) to submit an abstract.

To submit your abstract for the short research presentations or the poster session, please use the form linked at the top of this page. The deadline to submit an abstract has been extended to Friday, September 25, 2020. After submission, all abstracts will be reviewed by the participating COBRE and IDeA-CTR leadership teams. If necessary, independent reviewers with subject-matter expertise may also review submissions.

Authors who submit an abstract by Friday, September 18, 2020, will be notified of their acceptance via e-mail by Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Authors who submit an abstract after September 18th will be notified of their acceptance via e-mail by Wednesday, September 30, 2020. The short research presentations are scheduled for November 10, 2020, and November 12, 2020. The poster session is scheduled for November 11, 2020. A timeline of important dates is provided below.

The symposium is FREE and OPEN to the public, and there are no registration fees to attend or participate.

A NOTE ON THE SHORT RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS:

For this year’s digital symposium, those selected to participate in the short research presentations should prepare a presentation lasting no longer than ten minutes in length (and with a slideshow not to exceed 12 slides). Slides will be required to be submitted to the RDAR COBRE by Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Time and slide limits are in place to ensure that about five to six presenters will be able to overview their research within each session’s allotted time (a little over one hour).

A NOTE ON THE POSTER SESSION:

Those selected to participate in the poster session should prepare to submit a single PowerPoint slide with a short audio-recorded overview of their project (no longer than three minutes in length) to the RDAR COBRE by Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Poster materials will be publicly posted on the RDAR COBRE’s website the week of the symposium to provide participants with the ability to digitally view multiple posters throughout the week and during the session, itself. Please note that this session – including all submitted materials – will be accessible to the public during the week of the symposium. After the symposium ends, all materials will no longer be available to the public for viewing. Upon acceptance of the submitted abstract, additional tips and guidance will be sent via e-mail regarding how to create the pre-recorded poster materials.

If you have questions regarding this call, contact Kali Patterson (kpatterson2@unl.edu) for additional information. Please include “2020 Symposium on Substance Use Research” in your e-mail’s subject line.
