The LNC provides project support and recruitment and retention services to researchers working with hidden and hard-to-reach populations. Expertise in sampling, survey design, and project implementation are available to researchers working through the RDAR Center or independently.

The LNC also supports the use of three unique software platforms designed for work with hard-to-reach groups, including:

ODIN
The Open Dynamic Interaction Network software platform is a cellphone app-based data collection system to administer contextually responsive ecological momentary assessments. ODIN monitors data from cellphone sensors and then asks participants questions dynamically based on their sensor-defined context. Contexts of interest can be customized for each study, referencing time, participant location (via GPS), interaction (via Bluetooth signal strength), physical activity (via accelerometer), and stress (via Empatica E4). By delivering questions to participants at the moment of interest, ODIN provides lower recall error and participant burden compared to traditional longitudinal surveys. SNAPT
Social Network Analysis via Perceptual Tomography is a tablet app-based data collection system to quickly map out both actual and perceived structure of a networked population. SNAPT is fast because participants provide data on social relationships by sorting other participants' pictures using simple drag-and-drop actions. Researchers can customize SNAPT by specifying the individual- and network-related questions for their study on the system's website. SNAPT tablets obtain study protocol specifications and coordinate in the background via the cloud, allowing multiple tablets to be engaged simultaneously and further speed up data collection. MABUSE
The Multi-Actor-Based Universal Simulation Environment is software for modeling large-scale populations that are networked through multiple and dynamic relationship types. MABUSE is used to forecast the concurrent flow of attitudes, behaviors, and pathogens across social interactions and to map the range of potential downstream impacts of behavioral interventions, medically assisted treatments, and engagement strategies.
